loving life & living loved

Hahaha… Maybe this will be a new feature, as I’ve been finding myself up working pretty late for the past few nights. I’m the most productive in the wee hours of the night [or early morning]… definitely nocturnal. Nocturnal & also delirious [which is my excuse for any of the following not making sense].

I’m supposed to be working on a few things right now. 4-page program, raffle tickets, cast bios, props… All for the musical at my mom’s church this coming Sunday. But at the moment, I’m taking a much-needed break.

3am THOUGHTS… here goes

> I wanna go to Crepevine like… yesterday.

> I’ve had a certain harmony stuck in my head ALL. NIGHT. “gotta seek the daaay…”

> Can’t wait to see the camp shirts in person next week. Here’s a preview for my readers…

> So far, the weekend has been crazy… & I’m gonna be nonstop til Monday night [with the exception of an open Saturday night… but that’s always subject to change]

> FINALS. So on top of it…

> OPI What’s a Tire Jack? nail polish… one of my faves

> sleeeeeeepy

Well that was fun. Back to work I go…

beautiful.

"‎I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

I’m sure that, in light of recent tragedies, Japan has been on the minds of us all. It’s hard to think of ways lend a helping hand from the side of the world.

Well…

The big sis & her fam thought of a great [& pretty] way to raise some money to provide support the victims of Japan.

Handmade bracelets. $5 each or 3 for $12. These are available in a variety of colors… I’ve got one & I love it.

Earrings for $3.50/pair or 2 for $5. These come in silver, steel, & brass. I love these cuz they’re so easy to wear & go with every outfit! Pretty unique shape, too.

Quality products at prices that really can’t be beat… & 100% of the proceeds are going to Japan aid.

You in? Visit yellow pajamas for more details & to put in your orders! Help me help my friends help Japan!

PS: Please feel free to spread the word! The more the merrier!

With this project, I got my first taste of designing an entire invitation suite from start to finish…

My youngest sister was on the Prom planning committee for her school & they needed someone to design their Invitations/ Tickets. Thankfully, she came to me & asked if I’d be interested. My answer? A hearty yes!

Conception > Design > Edits > Shopping for materials > Negotiating print costs > Late-night craft store runs to replace broken corner rounders > Rounding an obscene amount of corners > Cutting & peeling 650 wraparound labels > Securing 650 mini star fasteners… The list goes on.

It was a crazy amount of work that I definitely could not have done on my own. My family came through for me like none other… & my sister’s friends were a huge help, too. At the end of the day, I so enjoyed this project. As stressed as I got, it was incredibly rewarding to see the entire project from start to finished.

The theme for the prom was vintage circus/ carnival. So, of course, I tried to make the invitations reflect the theme. After all, the invitations were the first impression that they would get of the prom… They would give them an idea of what to expect & hopefully persuade them to attend.

Now… Pictures!

I wanted the invites to feel festive, but a little formal at the same time. I designed these wraparound labels (the label design was very heavily based on one of the big sis’ designs), printed them on adhesive paper, & hand-cut every. single. one. It was a pain, & I even contemplated ditching the label, but I really liked how they looked so I powered through!

After pulling the invite out of the envelope, you were greeted by 3 separate panels that were secured together by a mini star fastener. The stars were such a tiny detail, but we all ended up LOVING it.

The inserts!

1. I wanted to make the first panel look a little bit like a circus tent, as evidenced by the background. This panel also introduced them to the name of the prom… “Cirque de la Nuit.” Printed on natural kraft cardstock, with embellished corners.

2. Second panel (& my personal favorite) was the one that contained all the important information. Venue, times, special directions… I used a mix of an art deco-inspired font, a formal script, & a fun, kinda whimsical serif. I loved the aqua chevron stripes with the bronze details. Printing this insert on cream cardstock really made the colors pop.

3. The final panel was the most festive. It listed all of the fun activities & events that would take place throughout the night. Fun circus-type finger foods, a vintage photo booth, a sword swallower & a stilt walker!? Sounded like loads of fun. Used a variety of festive fonts in navy & maroon. The dark text really popped against the mustard chevron stripes. Again, the cream cardstock really brought out the vibrant colors.

That about does it! Like I said, this project was a pretty big undertaking. But I was so grateful for the experience & would do it again in a heartbeat!

PS: please excuse my poor photography skills =)

Finally had some time to sit down & create… It was lovely.

It’d be selfish of me to keep all of these pretties for myself… So everything is for saaale! Interested?

Up first: Hand-drawn wood drop stud earrings.

Next: Hex Bracelets. Gotta give credit where it’s due… It was E who spotted these first & encouraged me to give it a go. Thanks, babe!

Last: Pack of 8 blank cards & envelopes. These cards reflect my current triangle obsession… Love ‘em.

Coming soon: Hand-cut polymer earrings… I’m so excited about these!

If you’re interested in purchasing anything or just wanna know the pricing, leave a comment & I’ll get back to you!
